![[Yakiniku in Shinjuku means Kobeya] A blissful evening at a yakiniku restaurant Shinjuku has loved for over 35 years.](https://media-01.cmosite.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/914/2024/11/17150250/media20241117150248987.jpg)
Our guests come to us for all sorts of reasons: dinner with the family, a date, a girls’ night, a business meal, a client dinner and more.
“This meal matters, and we do not want to get it wrong” — if that is where you are, come to Kobeya.
At Kobeya Yakiniku Shinjuku, a yakiniku restaurant founded 35 years ago, you can enjoy hand-picked Kuroge Wagyu and offal direct from Shibaura.
Today we will go through a few of the reasons why we have been a favourite for over 35 years in Shinjuku, one of the toughest yakiniku districts in Tokyo.
3 reasons Shinjuku has loved us for over 35 years

1. Beef delivered direct from Shibaura Market
The fresh offal and Kuroge Wagyu shipped straight from Shibaura Market each morning travel the shortest possible route, so the freshness and the flavour are on another level.
The natural sweetness and juiciness of the beef reach you exactly as they should.
2. Thirty-five years of trust with our suppliers
A first-rate supply route, made possible because we have dealt with the same partners since the day we opened.
That long-built trust lets us secure quality cuts that are normally hard to obtain, and to do it reliably, so the standard never slips.
The hand-picked cuts we serve
- Lean cuts and short rib of course, but also rare cuts such as skirt steak (harami) and zabuton (chuck flap), each cut and seasoned in the way that suits it best
- Recommended cuts change every month, so there is a new kind of “delicious” waiting however often you visit
3. Selection and cutting by a Certified Meat Expert (Level 1)
A professional who can judge the texture of the meat and the way the fat runs through it picks the right slice for your table.
By cutting each part to the thickness and shape that draw out its texture and flavour, every mouthful gives you the full taste the beef was meant to have.
Our courses
We have courses for different occasions, but there are 2 main ones.
| Course | Items | Price | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Selection Course *No.1 in popularity |
14 items | From ¥7,000 | A well-balanced, popular course |
| Premium Course | 14 items | From ¥8,500 | Built around the select and rare cuts we are proudest of |
Add all-you-can-drink for +¥2,500.
Kobeya Signature Premium Three-Cut Platter
The one we most want you to try is the Yamagata beef sirloin on our signature Premium Three-Cut Platter.
The line-up:
- Yamagata beef sirloin
- Select filet
- Select Wagyu skirt (harami)
Yamagata beef, which has won over the Japanese palate with its delicacy, is the highest grade of Kuroge Wagyu the prefecture has to offer. The marbling is genuinely fine and beautiful, and that marbling spreads a superb sweetness through the mouth before melting away.
From it we serve the sirloin. Praised as the best for the way the fat runs through it, its balance, its tenderness and its flavour, it is said to have been granted the title “Sir” — the king of cuts.
Both courses are packed with flavour, and are genuinely worth more than you pay.
*Parts of the menu may change depending on what we are able to source. Thank you for your understanding.
Drinks and the dining room
We do not have private rooms, but the room works well for a relaxed business meal or client dinner where nobody has to sit stiffly. Good beef keeps the conversation going.
We also have courses with all-you-can-drink, which makes us a good choice for drinking parties and larger gatherings.
A full drinks menu
- Draught beer
- Makgeolli, the natural partner to yakiniku
- Clean, easy drinks such as sudachi sour and lemon sour
- Yamazaki highball and Chita highball
We are a kamiawa super-certified bar. As a certified bar, we can serve you “The Premium Malt’s” with a fine-textured head.
Ideal after work or for drinks with friends, and just as good for a date or a family gathering.
Getting here
We are right by Shinjuku-gyoemmae Station, and about 10 minutes on foot from Shinjuku Station.
The walk home through the night air is not bad either.
In summary
Plate after plate made with this kind of care is the main reason Shinjuku has stayed with us for so long.
